Composition

Each bolus contains:

Tylosin tartrate..............600 mg

 

Indications

Treats shipping fever, pneumonia, foot rot, calf diphtheria, metritis in beef cattle and non-lactating dairy cattle. Treats mycoplasmal swine arthritis, pasteurella pneumonia, erysipelas, acute swine dysentery in swine.

 

Dosage and Administration

For oral administration: 1 bolus /60kg body weight, after the symptoms of the disease vanish, the treatment should continue for 24 hours. Not more than 3 days

 

Contraindication

(1)It should not be used at the same time as other macrolides, lincosamines and amidonalcohols.

(2)When combined with β - lactams, it shows antagonistic effect.

(3)Horse forbidden

 

Pharmacology

Tylosin is thought to have the same mechanism of action as erythromycin (binds to 50S ribosome and inhibits protein synthesis) and exhibits a similar spectrum of activity. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic. For more specific information on organisms that tylosin is usually active against, refer to the erythromycin monography just prior to this one. Cross resistance with erythromycin occurs.
