  • MS Biza Nature
    Oral administration of iron

A reduction of interventions and stimulation of the natural behaviour of animals applies in pig farming of the future. The MS Biza Nature innovation fits into this trend. The natural rooting behaviour of pigs is stimulated by oral uptake of iron. Benefits include higher haemoglobin levels, improved animal health, and a better return.

Based on estimates, 90% of pig farmers gives their piglets an iron injection at the age of 3 to 5 days. However, the standard iron provision is questioned. Partly because we already administer the same fixed amount of iron for decades and partly because iron is injected in pigs, which has a big impact on animal welfare. Also, due to changing circumstances (larger litters, variation in the birth weight, a limited amount of iron in the sows milk and accelerated the growth of heavier piglets) administering one single iron injection is not sufficient to supplement the iron deficiency up to the weaning time.

Inspired by this data, we developed MS Biza Nature; oral administration of iron. MS Biza Nature consists of an oral iron pasta, MS FerroPaste. It is administered in the first days of life with the aid of the MS FerroPaste Dispenser, an option to the MS BIZA Nature.

MS FerroFeed is a food supplement enriched with iron for suckling piglets until approximately 21 days. The piglets receive a daily new portion of MS FerroFeed (on the basis of a natural product), and thus can voluntarily determine the uptake and stimulate the natural rooting behaviour. Newborn piglets will take up iron in a stress-free and voluntary manner, there is no risk of cross-contamination, resistance is better, and the growth rate is higher. The transition for piglets to solid food is improved, which prevents the teat dip. Research has shown that piglets with MS Biza Nature grow an average of 300 grams bigger in the first four weeks.

    Other advantages MS Biza Nature
    - Connection to the natural rooting behaviour
    - Stress-free administration of iron for piglets
    - No risk of cross-contamination
    - Prevention of teat-dip
    - Less diarrhoea
    - Higher haemoglobin level
    - More resistance
    - Higher growth
    - Less mortality
    - Better piglet quality

I didn’t mean to say “thimble” just any small cup will do.
If you’ve been prescribed to give more meds—split up the dosage and administer in smaller amounts to prevent the turtle from choking or spitting out the meds. You don’t want the turtle to reject the liquids via the nostrils which is very painful. There is no need to press the tip of the syringe hard against the turtle’s mouth—just use the same motion as applying lipstick. It’s all about timing.
