TODAY WITH GUY RAZI:
We’ve already talked about choline and acetylcholine in previous videos. A study was published recently describing the effects of the cumulative use of strong anti-cholinergics. An anti-cholinergic blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in both the central and peripheral nervous system. The study by Gray, Anderson, and Dublin published in JAMA Internal Medicine 2015 Included 3434 participants 65 years or older with no history of dementia when the study started. Initial recruitment occurred from 1994-1996 and from 2000-03. Beginning in 2004, continuous replacement for deaths occurred. All participants were followed up every 2 years. Data through September 30, 2012, was included in this report. The data indicated a person taking an anticholinergic, such as oxybutynin chloride, 5 mg/d, or doxepin hydrochloride, 10 mg/d, for more than 3 years would have a greater risk for dementia. It went on to say people taking a minimum of 25 mg of an anticholinergic called diphenhydramine (or one Advil PM, Tylenol PM, Motrin PM, or Benadryl pill) a day for 3 to 12 months increased their relative risk for dementia by 19 percent; one to three years, by 23 percent; three to seven years, by 54 percent. We at MXEL are NOT saying NOT to use these medicines. Use them as directed! To take one, in the prescribed dosage, for 3 or 4 days, during a cold or flu is fine. DO NOT TAKE THEM DAILY FOR MONTHS ON END! You are literally destroying your brain! The only known way to combat this would be to talk a choline precursor like alpha GPC and to take something that prevents brain inflammation like lion’s mane mushroom or curcumin. You can find these in MXEL Shield and MXEL Boost. We don’t know what dosage you would have to take to combat the effects because as of the time of this video- the study hasn’t been done, no one knows. That said- don’t take these PM formulas if you don’t need them. If you are dependent on them for sleep, please seek help and get off them, you are eating your brain away.
In MXEL Brain Enhancer it Increases your memory, cognition and creativity while regulating mood and reducing metabolic waste. Reduce inflammation and decrease stress hormones.
